Story County has many needs which currently are not being addressed, and we enthusiastically support the Story County Community Foundation as yet another approach to meeting these needs. We are long-time residents of Ames (over 45 years), and have, perhaps too slowly, realized the existence of these unmet needs from a number of different viewpoints. We are co-chairs this year of the Retirees Division of United Way of Story County; Ruth has been active in the establishment of the Story County Community Dental Clinic; and individually both have served on the Board of the Emergency Residence Project where Clayton currently is President of the Board. Most organizations, such as these, rely directly on individual contributions, and the existence of this Foundation will provide an important supplementary source of funding for special projects or unusual situations in the future. Ruth and Clayton Ruth and Clayton feel strongly about giving back to the community in which they live. Through the years, they have been very strong supporters of many human service agencies in Story County. They give not only monetarily but countless hours of their time. They like the idea that the Story County Community Foundation will continue to assess the needs in the county and use the endowed dollars to make a difference in the future.
